Mexico City DH Horacio Ugueto defeated Anaheim's Mitch Sobkowiak in the final round of the season 16 Home Run Derby, 15-7, to win this season's event. Ugueto, who was elected to his first career All-Star team this season and entered the competition with a mere 27 long balls , finished the event with 42 homeruns overall.
