Pierce set to make ML debut

The Fargo Dirtbags have announced that the number two rated prospect in The Bigs, Sammy Pierce, will make his major league debut against Salem during today’s PM cycle. The call up comes just days after the 40th ranked prospect Willie Williams and CF prospect Greg Burkhart were also called up by Fargo. The moves appear to indicate that the team plans to make a playoff push.

“We’re around .500 with the worst offense in the major leagues and shaky starting pitching,” said Fargo GM kjmulli. “We really don’t have any offensive talent ready to be called up other than Burkhart but these moves give us a very nice rotation to help our dominant bullpen, and hopefully Pierce and Williams can lead us to a playoff berth.”

Pierce had been 8-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 19 starts at AAA. He struck out 117 and walked just 30 in 108.1 innings of work. Williams struck out seven while giving up just one earned run in six innings and picked up a win in his major league debut against the Diamondbacks on 3/1 AM.

The team has no plans to call up top rated prospect Javier Henriquez, according to kjmulli.
